Side Effects:
Uncommon (affects up to 1 in 100 people): Headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain, skin rash, itching, weakness, sleep disorders, and hip, wrist, or spine fractures.
Rare (affects up to 1 in 1,000 people): Altered taste, blurred vision, hives, joint pain, muscle pain, weight changes, fever, peripheral edema, allergic reactions, depression, and breast enlargement in males.
Very Rare: Disorientation.
Drug Interactions: May interact with ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, erlotinib, warfarin, phenprocoumon, atazanavir, methotrexate, fluvoxamine, and rifampicin.
Indication
For Treatment:
Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in peptic ulcer patients.
Duodenal and gastric ulcers.
Moderate to severe inflammation of the esophagus (reflux esophagitis).
When Not to Use
Contraindicated:
If allergic to pantoprazole or any other component of the medication.
If allergic to other proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions:
Precaution: Consult your doctor if you have severe liver problems, as liver enzyme levels need regular monitoring. Treatment should be discontinued if liver enzymes rise.
Warnings
Warning 1: Prolonged use of proton pump inhibitors, such as pantoprazole, may slightly increase the risk of hip, wrist, or spine fractures, particularly with long-term use.
