How It Works:
Esomeprazole inhibits the proton pump by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells. This decreases the secretion of hydrochloric acid into the stomach, thereby altering gastric pH and reducing acidity.

When Not to Use:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema, anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, acute interstitial nephritis, and urticaria have been reported.

Precaution:
Prolonged daily use (e.g., longer than 3 years) may lead to malabsorption or deficiency of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin).
Somezol Capsules Warnings:
Warning 1:
Hypomagnesemia has been reported rarely with prolonged use of PPIs.
Warning 2:
Long-term and multiple daily dose PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine.
Warning 3:
Avoid concomitant use with clopidogrel.
