Pepcidine Tablets Usage and Safety:
Dosage: Famotidine
Side Effects: Common: Headache, dizziness, diarrhea, constipation, nausea, vomiting, abdominal discomfort, anorexia, dry mouth, fever, fatigue. Rare: Irregular or rapid heartbeat, palpitations, muscle pain, cramps, joint pain, hallucinations, confusion, agitation, depression, anxiety, insomnia, tingling in extremities, decreased libido, seizures, breathing difficulties, tinnitus, taste disorders.
Drug Interactions: Ketoconazole, itraconazole, probenecid, sucralfate, warfarin, theophylline, phenytoin, diazepam, propranolol, aminopyrine, antipyrine, indocyanine, atazanavir.
Indication: Treatment of stomach and duodenal ulcers, prevention of ulcer recurrence, and Zollinger-Ellison Syndrome.
When Not to Use: Contraindicated in patients with an allergy to famotidine or any component of the formulation. Symptoms of an allergic reaction may include shortness of breath, facial or tongue swelling, rash, and itchiness.
Pepcidine Tablets Precautions:
Precaution: For patients with duodenal or benign gastric ulcers, H. pylori status should be assessed. Eradication therapy should be considered if H. pylori is present.
Pepcidine Tablets Warnings:
Warning 1: Do not discontinue use prematurely; follow your doctor’s advice on medication duration.
Warning 2: Avoid use in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to other H2-receptor antagonists due to potential cross-sensitivity.
Warning 3: Use with caution in patients with renal insufficiency; consider dose reduction if creatinine clearance is below 10 ml/min.
