How It Works: Maxolon blocks the action of a brain chemical that causes nausea and vomiting. It also increases muscle contractions in the stomach and upper intestine.
Maxolon Tablets Usage and Safety:
Dosage: Metoclopramide HCl
Side Effects:
Common: Drowsiness, tiredness, restlessness, dizziness, headache, bowel irregularities, insomnia, anxiety, agitation.
Serious: Uncontrolled or repetitive movements (e.g., lip-smacking, tongue darting, chewing movements, or movements of the arms/legs), which may indicate tardive dyskinesia (a potentially irreversible movement disorder). Fast heartbeat, depression, swelling of hands, ankles, or feet.
Drug Interactions: Tranquilizers or anti-anxiety medications, strong pain relievers (e.g., codeine, morphine), sedatives or sleeping medications, atropine-like medications (e.g., some cold preparations, travel sickness medicines), tetracycline antibiotics, paracetamol, levodopa, digoxin.
Indication: Used in adults to treat nausea and vomiting caused by conditions such as infectious diseases, migraines, kidney disease, childbirth, other medications, cancer, or following surgery, chemotherapy, or radiation treatment.
When Not to Use: Avoid if allergic to Metoclopramide or any of its ingredients.
Maxolon Tablets Precautions:
Precaution: In patients under 20 years, use should be limited to severe intractable vomiting of known cause, vomiting associated with radiotherapy or intolerance to cytotoxic drugs, aid in gastrointestinal intubation, diagnostic radiology, or premedication before surgical procedures. If vomiting persists, reassess to rule out underlying disorders like cerebral irritation.
