How it Works: Lactated Ringer’s solution is a sterile fluid used for replenishing fluids and electrolytes. It restores fluid and electrolyte balance, supports diuresis, and acts as an alkalizing agent to reduce acidity.

Indication:
Treatment of hypovolemic states, including dehydration and hemorrhage.
Initial therapy for severe dehydration due to diarrhea and vomiting; recommended by the World Health Organization for severe dehydration from diarrhea in all age groups.
Trauma and burns.
Prevention and replenishment of extracellular fluid before, during, and after surgery.
Management of environmental emergencies, such as dehydration and heat illness due to severe perspiration.
When Not to Use: Avoid use in cases of congestive heart failure or renal failure.
Precautions:
Do not mix with citric acid-added blood or preparations containing phosphoric or carbonic acid, as calcium in this solution may react and form precipitates.
Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with cardiac failure, severe liver damage, or restricted salt intake, as the solution contains 6.0 grams/Liter of sodium chloride and 3.1 grams/Liter of sodium lactate.
Exercise caution in patients with hypertonic dehydration, alkalosis, or disturbances in lactic acid metabolism.
Continuous monitoring of E.C.G. is recommended.
