Side Effects:
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain, skin rash, itching, weakness, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine.
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Altered taste, blurred vision, hives, joint pain, muscle pain, weight changes, elevated body temperature, high fever, swelling of extremities, allergic reactions, depression, and breast enlargement in males.
Very Rare: Disorientation.
Drug Interactions: May interact with ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, erlotinib, warfarin, phenprocoumon, atazanavir, methotrexate, fluvoxamine, and rifampicin.
Indication
For Treatment:
Eradication of Helicobacter pylori in patients with peptic ulcers.
Treatment of duodenal and gastric ulcers.
Management of moderate to severe reflux esophagitis.
When Not to Use
Contraindications:
If allergic to pantoprazole or any other components of the medicine.
If allergic to other proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions:
Precaution: Consult your doctor if you have severe liver issues. Regular monitoring of liver enzymes is necessary, and treatment should be discontinued if enzyme levels rise.
Warnings:
Warning 1: Long-term use of pantoprazole, particularly for more than a year, may slightly increase the risk of fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine.
Warning 2: Inform your doctor if you have had a skin reaction to similar acid-reducing medications.
Warning 3: If you develop a rash, particularly in sun-exposed areas, or experience other symptoms like joint pain, contact your doctor immediately.
