Venlafaxine works by increasing serotonin levels, norepinephrine, and dopamine in the brain by blocking transport proteins and stopping their reuptake at the presynaptic terminal.

This medicine is used to treat:

• Depression
• General anxiety disorder
• Social anxiety disorder
• Panic disorder

Follow these dosage instructions for adult patients:

Initial dose

Overdose symptoms include nausea, vomiting, anorexia, drowsiness, slight tremors, anxiety, tachycardia, and modest changes in blood pressure. Seek medical help if you think you have taken too much of this medication.

If you miss a dose, make sure to take it as soon as possible the same day. If you don’t remember missing the dose, don’t double it. Consult your doctor on how to adjust the missing doses.

Empty bladder before taking this medication. Take standard tablets twice a day, once in the morning and once in the evening. Take slow-release tablets or capsules once a day, at any time, ensuring you stick to the same time daily. If experiencing trouble sleeping, take it in the morning.

Venlafaxine is contraindicated if it causes worsening:

• Suicidal ideation 
• Depression 
• Anxiety 
• Psychosis 
• pregnancy and lactation.

Common side effects include:

• Feeling sick (nausea)
• Sweating and hot flushes
• Headaches
• A dry mouth
• Feeling dizzy
• Feeling sleepy
• Being unable to sleep (insomnia)
• Constipation

You should practice these cautions before taking the medicine:

• Talk to your doctor if you have hypersensitivity or allergic reactions to any of the components in the medicine.
• Caution is advisable in heart failure patients, hyperthyroidism, and those with recent myocardial infarctions as it can raise blood pressure and increase heart rate.

Ask your doctor about any possible drug interactions, and discuss every medicine you have been taking.

Store the medicine at room temperature and keep out of direct sunlight, excessive heat, and moisture. Keep the medicine out of the reach of children and animals. Do not use the medication past its expiration date.
