Ultrasound or sonogram is the most common imaging exam used during pregnancy. It is a safe and effective way of screening, determining the baby’s growth, and ensuring a safe delivery.
A Level II ultrasound is a targeted, high-resolution ultrasound done in the second trimester of pregnancy to monitor the baby for some birth defects. This non-invasive diagnostic test uses a probe placed over the uterus to get pictures of the fetus. Ultrasounds help to identify problems such as ectopic pregnancies, miscarriages, and placenta issues. The Level II ultrasound scans also monitor the baby’s growth, including head, abdomen, and thigh measurements. It also measures the amniotic fluid level and the baby’s heart rate and size.
