How it works
Tibolone works by mimicking the activity of the female sex hormones, oestrogen and progesterone. It also has some male hormone (androgen) effects. Tibolone helps to restore the balance of female hormones in women who have a lack of oestrogen; it helps to ease symptoms such as hot flushes and night sweats.

Drug Interactions

Indication
It is used for hormonal replacement in post-menopausal women.
When not to Use
• Pregnancy and lactation • Known, past or suspected breast cancer known or suspected estrogen dependent malignant tumors (e.g. endometrial cancer) • Undiagnosed genital bleeding • Untreated endometrial hyperplasia• Previous or current venous thromboembolism (deep venous thrombosis, pulmonary embolism) • Known thrombophilic disorders (e.g. protein C, protein S, or antithrombin deficiency).

Precaution
The risks of stroke, breast cancer and, in women with an intact uterus, endometrial cancer for each woman should be carefully assessed.
Tibol Tablets Warnings
Warning 1
During treatment, periodic check-ups are recommended of a frequency and nature adapted to the individual woman.
Warning 2
Ovarian cancer is much rarer than breast cancer. Long-term (at least 5-10 years) use of estrogen-only HRT products may be associated with a slightly increased risk of ovarian cancer.
Warning 3
Women should be advised what changes in their breasts should be reported to their doctor or nurse.
