How It Works:
Esomeprazole works by irreversibly binding to the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in the proton pump of the gastric parietal cells. This action inhibits the final pathway for the secretion of hydrochloric acid, significantly reducing its secretion into the stomach and altering gastric pH.

When Not to Use:
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to proton pump inhibitors (PPIs). Hypersensitivity reactions such as angioedema, anaphylaxis, bronchospasm, acute interstitial nephritis, and urticaria have been reported.

Precaution:
Long-term daily use (e.g., longer than 3 years) may lead to malabsorption or deficiency of vitamin B12 (cyanocobalamin).
Somezol Capsules Warnings:
Warning 1:
Hypomagnesemia has been reported rarely with prolonged use of PPIs.
Warning 2:
Long-term and multiple daily dose PPI therapy may be associated with an increased risk of osteoporosis-related fractures of the hip, wrist, or spine.
Warning 3:
Avoid concomitant use with clopidogrel.
