Colic Drops contain Simethicone which belongs to the class of medicines known as gastrointestinal agents. 

Colic Drops Uses

Babies often face excessive gas and discomfort issues due to gas. To treat the symptoms of flatulence in infants, colic drops are used. 

Colic drops have Simethicone which aids in expelling the gas that is trapped inside the stomach and intestine of infants. 

Simethicone takes approximately 30 minutes to show its effectiveness and it works by breaking up the gas bubbles built up in the gut.

• Pain or Discomfort Due to Excessive Gas
• Functional Dyspepsia

Doctors usually prescribe the drug to infants who have excessive gas issues.

There are alternatives to this drug present in the market, such as Hyoscyamine, Simethicone, Diazepam Intensol, Iopamidol, Levsin, Isovue-370, etc.

Dosage and Administration

• Doctors recommend giving 5-10 drops four times a day to children under the age of 6 months. 
• However, for children aged six to twelve months, doctors may prescribe 10-20 drops four times a day.
• For children over the age of 1 year, doctors prescribe 20-25 drops four times a day.
• Colic drops can be administered directly into the baby’s mouth, or you can add in any food or the nipple of the baby. You can also add the drops in the milk bottle of the baby.
• The best time is to give colic drops at night after a meal.
• If you miss a dose of Colic Drops, then take the dose as early as possible. But if it is almost the time of the next dose, then skip the previous one and take the next one. And follow the regular dosing schedule.
• Follow the dosing instructions as advised by your doctor.

Colic Drops Side Effects

There are no serious side effects after taking Colic Drops. But some of the commonly occurring side effects are as follows:

Risks and Warnings

• Allergic to Colic Drops

If you’re allergic to Colic Drops or any other drug like Colic Drops, then do not take it. It can lead to a life-threatening condition called anaphylactic shock. 

Anaphylactic shock is a rare but very severe allergic reaction and can lead to death if not treated at the right time. Its signs and symptoms are pale skin, itching, labored breathing, hives, a weak and rapid pulse, runny nose, nausea, excessive salivation, swollen tongue and lips, dizziness, tingling feet, mouth, hands, or scalp, vomiting, sneezing, etc. 

It is better to inform your doctor about any allergies you may have. 

• Phenylketonuria (PKU)

Colic drops contain phenylalanine which is not suitable for patients of Phenylketonuria (PKU). Therefore, before taking this medicine, it is better to consult a doctor. 

Drug Interactions

When you take more than two drugs together, they can cause a reaction in the body. Sometimes the reaction is not obvious. But sometimes, it can cause adverse reactions. Therefore, it is better to consult your doctor before taking any other medicines along with Colic Drops. 

It is an over-the-counter drug and may interact with the following drugs:

• Liotrix
• Levothyroxine
• Liothyronine
• Thyroid Desiccated

To avoid any drug interactions, it is better to tell your doctor the complete medical history and the medicines that you’re already taking. 

Overdose of Colic Drops

Symptoms of an overdose of Colic Drops have not been reported yet. However, in case of an overdose, it is advised to talk to your doctor immediately.

• Keep it away from heat, direct sunlight, and moisture
