How it Works: Domeperidone maleate alleviates nausea and vomiting by blocking dopamine receptors in the chemoreceptor trigger zone and enhancing gastrointestinal motility.

Side Effects: Common: Headache (5.6%), Diarrhea (5.2%), Breast Enlargement/Gynaecomastia (5.3%), Rash (2.8%), Pruritus (1.7%). Rare: Depression (2.5%), Anxiety (1.6%), Libido Decreased/Loss of Libido, Somnolence (2.5%), Akathisia (1%), Galactorrhoea (3.3%), Amenorrhea (2.9%), Menstruation Irregular (2.0%), Lactation Disorder (1.6%).
Drug Interactions: CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., indinavir), Antiarrhythmics (e.g., disopyramide, amiodarone), Certain antipsychotics (e.g., haloperidol), Certain antidepressants (e.g., citalopram), Antibiotics (e.g., levofloxacin), Antifungal agents (e.g., pentamidine), Antimalarial agents (e.g., halofantrine), Gastrointestinal drugs (e.g., dolasetron), Cancer drugs (e.g., toremifene), Other drugs (e.g., bepridil).
Indication: Treatment of nausea and vomiting.
When not to Use: Contraindicated in patients with moderate to severe hepatic impairment, existing prolongation of cardiac conduction intervals (QTc), electrolyte disturbances, or significant underlying cardiac diseases.
Precautions: May be associated with an increased risk of serious ventricular arrhythmias or sudden cardiac death.
Warnings:
Patients older than 60 years should consult their physician before use.
Not recommended in patients with prolonged QTc or significant electrolyte disturbances.
Discontinue use if signs of cardiac arrhythmia occur and consult a physician immediately.
