How it Works: Sodium picosulfate, a bisodic salt, acts as a local laxative. It is metabolized by colonic bacteria into an active compound that stimulates the mucosa of the large intestine, promoting colonic peristalsis. Typically effective within 10–14 hours.
Laxoberon Tablets Usage and Safety
Dosage: Sodium Picosulphate
Side Effects: May rarely cause gastrointestinal issues such as abdominal pain, discomfort, distension, borborygmus, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea.
Drug Interactions: Use caution with antibiotics, digoxin, diuretics, lithium, corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, antidiabetics, anticonvulsants, iron, bulking agents, TCADs, SSRIs, and antipsychotics.
Indication: Effective for acute and chronic constipation, evacuation in painful conditions like hemorrhoids, pre- and post-operative bowel preparation, and preparation of the colon for barium enema or proctosigmoidoscopy.
When Not to Use: Contraindicated in patients with ileum, intestinal obstruction, acute abdominal conditions (e.g., appendicitis, inflammatory bowel disease), severe dehydration, or known hypersensitivity to sodium picosulfate.

Precaution: Avoid prolonged use to prevent diarrhea and possible electrolyte imbalances, including hypokalemia.
