How it Works: Pantoprazole is used to treat certain stomach and esophagus problems, such as acid reflux. It works by reducing the amount of acid your stomach produces.
Usage and Safety:
Dosage: Pantoprazole Sodium
Side Effects:
Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people): Headache, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, bloating, flatulence, constipation, dry mouth, abdominal pain, skin rash, itching, fatigue, sleep disturbances, and bone fractures (hip, wrist, spine).
Rare (may affect up to 1 in 1,000 people): Altered sense of taste, blurred vision, hives, joint pain, muscle pain, weight changes, elevated body temperature, high fever, swelling of extremities, allergic reactions, depression, breast enlargement in males.
Very Rare: Disorientation
Drug Interactions: Be cautious with medications such as ketoconazole, itraconazole, posaconazole, erlotinib, warfarin, phenprocoumon, atazanavir, methotrexate, fluvoxamine, and rifampicin.
Indication:
Used in combination with two appropriate antibiotics for the eradication of Helicobacter pylori to reduce the recurrence of duodenal and gastric ulcers.
Treats duodenal ulcers, gastric ulcers, and moderate to severe cases of reflux esophagitis.
When Not to Use:
Do not use if you are allergic to pantoprazole or any other ingredients in the medication.
Avoid if you are allergic to other proton pump inhibitors.
Precautions:
Consult your doctor, pharmacist, or nurse before use if you have severe liver problems or a history of liver issues. Your liver enzymes should be monitored regularly during treatment. Discontinue if liver enzymes increase.
Warnings:
Fracture Risk: Prolonged use of pantoprazole may slightly increase the risk of fractures in the hip, wrist, or spine.
Previous Reactions: Inform your doctor if you have previously experienced a skin reaction to similar medications that reduce stomach acid.
Skin Rash: If you develop a rash, especially in sun-exposed areas, or experience joint pain, notify your doctor immediately. Treatment may need to be adjusted.
