- Pneumonia
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of Community-Acquired Pneumonia which is a most common type of lung infection caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae or Haemophilus influenzae.
- Bronchitis
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of bronchitis which is an inflammation of the lining of the bronchial tubes caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, and some Mycoplasma Pneumonia.
- Pyelonephritis
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of Pyelonephritis which is a type of kidney infection caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Cystitis
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of cystitis which is a bladder infection caused by E.coli, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, Enterococci and Klebsiella pneumoniae.
- Prostatitis
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of Prostatitis (inflammation of the prostate gland that produces semen) caused by Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas and Enterococcus species.
- Gonococcal infection
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of Gonococcal infection which is a sexually transmitted bacterial infection caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae.
- Joint infection
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of bone and joint infections caused by Enterobacter cloacae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
- Pneumonia with cystic fibrosis
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s is used in the treatment of Pneumonia with Cystic Fibrosis (an inherited disease that causes thick mucus to build up in the lungs and promotes the growth of bacteria like Staphylococcus aureus and Hemophilus influenzae).
- Pyelonephriits
This medicine is used in the treatment of pyelonephritis which is a type of kidney infection caused by E. coli, Pseudomonas aeurginosa, Enterococci, Klebsiella pneumoniae, etc. I
- Inhalation Anthrax
This medicine is used in the treatment of anthrax which is a rare but serious bacterial illness caused by Bacillus anthracis.
- Plague
This medicine is used in the treatment of plague which is a serious bacterial illness caused by Yersinia pestis
When not to use?
Allergy
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a known allergy to Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’sor any other medicines belonging to the class fluoroquinolones.
Tendinitis or tendon rupture
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a past history of tendinitis or tendon rupture after using Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s.
Myasthenia gravis
This medicine is not recommended for use if you have a past history or family history of Myasthenia Gravis (weakness and rapid fatigue of muscles under voluntary control).
Warnings
Pregnancy
Use of this medicine is not recommended in pregnant women. Use only if clearly needed under the supervision of the doctor.
Breast-feeding
This medicine is not recommended for use in breastfeeding women unless necessary. The risks and benefits should be discussed with the doctor before taking this medicine.
Tendinitis and tendon rupture
Use of Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s will increase the risk to develop tendinitis or tendon rupture during the treatment or several months after treatment. It will affect the shoulder, hand, the back of your ankle, or other parts of your body. The risk is more if you are above 60 years of age and have a history of kidney, heart, or lung transplant and joint disease. You are also at high risk if you are on corticosteroids like dexamethasone, methylprednisolone or prednisone.
Drug-resistance
Usage of Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s without sufficient proof or suspicion of a bacterial infection should be avoided. Irrational dosing might fail in providing the benefits and even cause toxicity. It may also increase the risk of development of bacteria that is drug resistant.
Alternative treatment
Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s will increase the risk of developing serious side effects. It should reserved for use only if you have no alternative treatment options for acute bacterial exacerbation of chronic bronchitis or uncomplicated cystitis.
Diarrhea
Antibiotic therapy will cause an imbalance in the normal microbial flora of the large intestine, which may promote the growth of a bacteria called Clostridium difficile and you may experience severe diarrhea as a result. Report any such incidence to the doctor on priority and avoid usage of this medicine in such cases.
Driving or Operating machinery
Use of this medicine may rarely cause symptoms such as blurred vision, drowsiness, dizziness, etc. in some patients. It is advised that you do not perform any activities such as driving a vehicle or operating machinery if you experience any of these symptoms during treatment with this medicine.
Dosage
- Missed Dose
Oral forms: The missed dose of Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s should be taken as soon as possible. It is advisable to skip the missed dose if it is already the time for your next scheduled dose. Do not double the dose to make up for the missed dose. Since Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s injection is mostly administered by a healthcare professional in a clinical setting, the likelihood of missing a dose is very low.
- Overdose
Oral forms: Seek emergency medical attention or contact your doctor in case of an overdose with Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s. Injection: Since this medicine is administered in the hospital setting by a qualified healthcare professional, the likelihood of an overdose is very less. However, emergency medical treatment will be initiated by the doctor if an overdose is suspected.
General Instructions
Oral forms: Take Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s as advised by your doctor. You may take this medicine with or without food. Do not take in larger amounts than advised. How to use Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s
IV: Administer by slow IV infusion over 60 min into a large vein to reduce the risk of venous irritation (burning, pain, erythema and swelling); final concentration for administration should not exceed 2 mg/mL.
Reconstitution: Injection, vial: May be diluted with NS, D5W, SWFI, D10W, D5¼NS, D5½ NS, LR.
Compatibility: Stable in D5¼NS, D5½NS, D5W, D10W, LR, NS.

Drug to Drug IV Compatibility: Amikacin, amiodarone, aztreonam, calcium gluconate, cisatracurium, digoxin, diltiazem, diphenhydramine, dobutamine, dopamine, fluconazole, gentamicin, hydromorphone, linezolid, lorazepam, metoclopramide, metronidazole, midazolam, milrinone, norepinephrine, ondansetron, ranitidine, tobramycin, vasopressin.
Drug to Drug IV Incompatibility: Acyclovir, aminophylline, ampicillin/sulbactam, azithromycin, cefepime, dexamethasone sodium phosphate, furosemide, heparin, hydrocortisone sodium succinate, lansoprazole, magnesium sulphate, methylprednisolone sodium succinate, pantoprazole, phenytoin, piperacillin/tazobactam, propofol, warfarin.
When admixed: Incompatible with aminophylline, clindamycin, floxacillin, heparin.
Stability: Vial; Store between 5°C-30°C. Premixed infusion; Store between 5°C-30°C. Protect from light. Avoid freezing.
what are the adverse effects of Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s?
Nausea, diarrhoea, rash. Hypersensitivity/skin reactions; discontinue if occur. Very rarely, tendon inflammation and rupture, pseudomembranous colitis; discontinue if tendinitis or persistent diarrhoea develops. Injection: Local reaction.
What happens if I miss a dose of Cipacin tablet 250 mg 10’s?
ORAL: Adults: 250-750 mg bid usually for 1-2 wk depending on severity and response.
Lower RTI: Mild-Moderate: 500 mg bid x 1-2 wk. Severe: 750 mg bid or 500 mg t.i.d x 1-2 wk.
Bone Infection: Mild-Moderate: 500 mg bid x 4-6 wk. Severe: 750 mg bid x 4-6 wk.
Skin Infection: Mild-Moderate: 500 mg bid x 1-2 wk. Severe: 750 mg bid x 1-2 wk.
UTI: Acute Uncomplicated: 100 mg or 250 mg bid x 3 days. Mild/Moderate: 250 mg bid x 1-2 wk. Severe/Complicated: 500 mg bid x 1-2 wk.
Acute uncomplicated cystitis: 250-500 mg bid x 3 days.
Gonorrhoea, Inhalation anthrax: 500 mg bid x 60 days after confirmed or suspected exposure.
Children: Used only for established following indication and when no other safe alternative available.
Acute exacerbation of cystic fibrosis: Under 5 yr, not recommended; 5-17 yr, 20 mg/kg bid x 10-14 days; max 750 mg/dose.
Other severe infections 20 mg/kg bid; max 750 mg/dose.
Complicated UTI/Pyelonephritis: 1-17 yr: 10-20 mg/kg bid x 10-21 days. Max: 750 mg.
Inhalation anthrax: 10-15 mg/kg bid x 60 days after confirmed or suspected exposure, max 500 mg/dose.
INJECTION: Adults: 400 mg bid or tid times daily by IV infusion over 60 min x 5-14 days depending upon the severity of infection.
Lower RTI: 400 mg IV bid x 1-2 wk. Severe: 400 mg IV tid x 1-2 wk.
Bone Infection: Mild to moderate: 400 mg IV bid x 4-6 wk. Severe: 400 mg IV tid x 4-6 wk.
Skin Infection: Mild-Moderate: 400 mg IV bid x 1-2 wk. Severe: 400 mg IV tid x 1-2 wk.
UTI: Mild/Moderate: 200 mg IV bid x 1-2 wk. Severe/Complicated: 400 mg IV bid x 1-2 wk.
Mild/Moderate Chronic Bacterial Prostatitis: 400 mg IV bid x 4 wk.
Children: Complicated UTI/Pyelonephritis: 1-17 yr: 6-10 mg/kg IV bid x 10-21 days. Max: 400 mg IV/dose.
